# How comment moderation works

> Turn on AI moderation per page, hide comments by rule, and find out why a comment was hidden.

Brandwise can hide negative, spammy, or off-brand comments on your pages as they arrive. Moderation is set up separately for each connected page.

## Open a page's settings

Use either route:

- **Settings > Social Media**, then click the gear (**Page settings**) next to the page.
- **Social Inbox > Comments**, then **Page settings** at the bottom of the sidebar, and pick the page on the left.

Everything saves as soon as you switch it.

## Automatic moderation

| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| **AI Moderation** | The AI checks each new comment and hides negative or toxic comments, spam, and competitor promotion. It also flags comments that need a reply. |
| **Only on ads** | Leaves comments on organic posts alone (Facebook and Instagram) |
| **Delete instead of hiding** | Deletes flagged comments instead of hiding them (Facebook and Instagram). Brandwise asks you to confirm first. |
| **Mark hidden comments as read** | Hidden comments stop counting as unread in your inbox |

## Manual review

| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Hide every comment** | Hides every new comment, on ads and organic posts, until someone on your team unhides it |
| **Hide comments on ads** | Hides new ad comments until reviewed (Facebook and Instagram). Not used while **Hide every comment** is on. |
| **Hide comments with images** | Facebook only. Hides any comment with an image, GIF, or video, without an AI check. |

Comments containing a [Keyword Blacklist](https://brandwise.ai/help/comments/keyword-blacklist) phrase, or from a user you blocked in the inbox, are hidden too, even when AI Moderation is off.

> **Warning:** Deleted comments can't be recovered, by you or by the person who wrote them. Comments that were already hidden aren't affected when you turn on **Delete instead of hiding**.

## Turn it off for one post

Open a comment on the post in the inbox, click **Post settings** in the post preview, and turn on **Disable moderation**. Brandwise stops auto-hiding comments on that post.

## Credits

AI Moderation uses 1 AI credit for each comment it checks. The other rules use 1 credit each time they hide a comment. When your organization runs out of credits, automatic moderation pauses until you have credits again. See [How AI credits work](https://brandwise.ai/help/account-billing/ai-credits).

## Why was this comment hidden?

Open the comment in the inbox, click **More actions**, then **View logs**. The log shows what happened and when, for example "Comment hidden due to blacklisted phrase" with the phrase. To undo a hide, click **Unhide** on the comment.
